Campus Activities

Students participating in a game show on campus

College is not all about going to class, studying and taking tests – this is just part of the big picture. While academics and obtaining a degree is the most important factor, a break is necessary to allow yourself to maintain a certain level of sanity. Alderson-Broaddus College offers many opportunities for a student to get out and about on campus and be involved with an activity.

Throughout the academic year, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) arranges for several functions to be present on campus. Whether it is a comedian to make you laugh or a guest speaker to make you think about other things than what’s in your world around you, something is available for everyone to enjoy. Plus, you may walk away with some money.

Take, for example, the Think Fast Game Show. Competitors are challenged by other students with the winner walking away with $200. Another game, Blizzard for Bucks, the winner can also walk away with a cash prize. Every activity of course does not involve a monetary prize, but events like Clearly You Crystal can provide you with a keepsake that reminds you of your college years here at A-B by engraving a 3-D image of you on an a crystal.

What-ever-Wednesdays are also becoming popular. Events on Wednesdays may include air brushed t-shirts, or a talent/no talent show. According to Roxanne Bright, director of campus activities, conferences and orientation, “CAB strives to have activities on campus that makes students feel like they are not in class. It’s basically a time for students to take a break. Things like What-ever-Wednesdays provide a variety so there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Students are also encouraged to get involved in one or more of the available 50 clubs and organizations. For an entire list of all the campus organizations, click on this link and view what is available. If a something does not exist that a student has an interest in and they can round up 10 or more students who enjoy the same thing, they could create a new club or organization.

The surrounding area also offers multiple activities. Shopping, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, camping and movie cinemas are all just a short drive from campus. Groups of students are always getting together taking road trips to enjoy what is in the area.

Get out and meet someone new! Attend one of the various activities offered on campus, or go out with a group of friends and experience what the area has to offer. See you at an event soon.
