What Should I Bring?

To help you get ready to move into your residence hall room, here are a few suggestions of what you can bring:

  • Small refrigerator (U.L. approved and no larger than 4.1 cubic feet)
  • Microwave (U.L. approved, 2.0 cubic feet, 1200 wattage)
  • TV and Stereo
  • Laptop or Desktop Computer
  • Alarm Clock
  • Telephone
  • Surge Protector
  • Trash Can
  • Desk Lamp
  • Pillows, Blankets, and Sheets
  • Towels, Wash Cloths, Soap, Shampoo, etc.
  • Shower Caddy
  • Curtains
  • Miscellaneous Desk Items (Tape, stapler, paper clips, notebooks, pens, etc.)

Not all of the above are necessary, and there may be more things you want to bring with you. Your residence hall room will be your home away from home, so make it comfortable.

  • Weapons (Including any item considered to be a weapon)
  • Weightlifting Equipment

Computer Information

Students are encouraged, but not required (except Computer Science majors) to have a personal computer. Here are some guidelines for personal computers:

  • Internet access, including wireless (802.11 a, b, and g), is available to all students across the entire campus for no additional fee. At least a 10Base-T network card or wireless network card is required and students must register for access. More information as to how to register will be given during orientation.
  • PCs are recommended.  Any model PC with a Pentium style processor or AMD with at least 1 GHx of power, greater than 512 MB RAM, running the operating system Microsoft Windows XP or higher, and using the browser Internet Explorer or Firefox. Apple Macintosh users are encouraged to contact the College IT staff at (304)457-6331 for guidelines.
