Freshman Student Admission

A Student in Anatomy ClassHigh school students seeking admission to the College are urged to apply during the spring semester of the junior year or the fall semester of the senior year. Students who are already graduates of secondary schools or who have earned a GED should apply early. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

In addition to the completed application for admission, students seeking freshman admission must submit the following:

  1. $25.00 non-refundable application fee.
  2. Results of the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  3. Official secondary school transcripts. High school students may be considered for admission with grades reported through their junior year in high school. Final transcripts noting certification of graduation must also be submitted. Those students earning a GED must submit official record of scores achieved.

Home Schooled Student Admission

Home schooled students seeking regular admission to the College are urged to apply during the spring of the junior year or fall of the senior year. Students applying must be 16 years of age or older. In addition to the completed application for admission, home schooled students seeking freshman admission must submit the following:

  1. $25.00 non-refundable application fee.
  2. Results of the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  3. Official secondary school transcripts (if any). Final transcripts noting certification of graduation must also be submitted. Those students earning a GED must submit an official record of scores achieved.

Transfer Student Admission

A student who desires to transfer with advanced standing from another college must submit a completed application for admission. The following are necessary to complete the transfer student admission file:

  1. $25.00 non-refundable application fee. Some programs may require additional application fees.
  2. Results of the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Students with 29 or more transferable semester credit hours may not be required to submit ACT or SAT results.
  3. Official secondary school transcripts. Students with a GED must submit official record of scores achieved.

International Student Admission

The college is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. A student from another country who seeks admission to the College must submit the following:

  1. Completed application for international admission and affidavit of support form (supplied by the College) with the application for admission. Contact the admissions office at 304-457-6256 to obtain application, or send written request to Alderson-Broaddus College, 101 College Hill Drive, Box 2003, Philippi, WV 26416.
  2. Test scores: test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if English is a second language or American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) if English is first language.
  3. Official transcripts of all preparatory school, college and university work. These transcripts must be in English.  International college/university course work must be evaluated by a professional transcript evaluation service such as: World Education Services, Inc. (WES); American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO); or Foreign Academic Credentials Services, Inc (FACS).  Results of the evaluations must be sent to the Admissions Office.

Criteria for Admission

  • Minimum criteria for automatic admission for students who have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent, and transfer students who have 28 or fewer credit hours accepted through transfer by Alderson-Broaddus, are as follows:

    • An ACT composite of 20 or a SAT I combined score of 950 or better and a high school or college(s) grade point average of 2.00 or better; or
    • An ACT composite of 17 or SAT I combined score of 820 or better and a high school or college(s) grade point average of 3.00 or better; or
    • An ACT composite of 20 or an SAT I combined score of 950 or better and a GED score of 53 or better.
  • The minimum criteria for automatic admission for students who have 29 or more credit hours accepted through transfer by Alderson-Broaddus is the student must have earned a 2.00 or equivalent college(s) grade point average on a 4.00 scale on all credits earned at other institutions. Some academic programs may have additional requirements for admission.
  • A special review committee consisting of one admissions officer, an individual from the division in which the student desires to major, and an individual from the English department, will review the file of any student not meeting the above criteria. When there exists specific academic concerns, the admissions office may have the special review committee review the file of any applicant who meets automatic admission criteria.
  • The minimum criteria for automatic admission of international students is a minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL exam.

    • International students scoring between 500-550 on the TOEFL are required to take English 180 and are permitted to take no more than 12 credit hours (including English 180) during their first semester of enrollment.
    • International students scoring 550 or above on the TOEFL will qualify for regular admission to the College. Admitted students may still be required to take English 180. Additional courses may be taken but students will be limited to 15 credit hours their first semester of enrollment.
